On October 1-2, 2016, Sankofa.org -- founded in 2013 by legendary Actor, Entertainer and Humanitarian Harry Belafonte – will launch the inaugural “Many Rivers To Cross” Social Justice Music and Arts Festival. Taking place in Chattahoochee Hills, GA (just outside of Atlanta).
“Many Rivers To Cross” is set to be the largest music and arts festival dedicated to social justice. “Many Rivers To Cross” will feature many top artists and celebrities, as well as bring together thought-leaders, activists and communities around the issues of Mass Incarceration and Criminal Justice through the lens of Voting Rights.
Artists confirmed to perform include John Legend, Estelle, Dave Matthews, Common, Carlos Santana, and Public Enemy, in addition to appearances by Chris Rock, Jesse Williams, and Dr. Cornel West, with more performers, entertainers and notable participants to be announced over the coming weeks.
“Many Rivers To Cross” will also include a “Social Justice Village” where activists, thought-leaders, and Sankofa’s organizational partners will share information, exchange ideas, and activate calls-to- action to mobilize attendees around society’s most urgent human rights issues, including systemic bias and discrimination exhibited by legal and voting institutions.
Sankofa.org has been building a platform where influential artists and grassroots leaders can work collaboratively to speak out on the most pressing social justice issues of our time. Having successfully partnered with Blackout for Human Rights on last February’s groundbreaking “Justice For Flint” fundraising event, as well as helping to spearhead Grammy-Winning Artist Usher’s “Chains” racial justice campaign, Sankofa.org is now raising the bar with “Many Rivers To Cross”
The goal of the Festival is to raise funds for Sankofa.org to support social justice grassroots partners who are working and organizing on the front lines for change every day. For a full list of our partners and collaborators, please visit our website at Sankofa.org.
The nation has reached a critical tipping point and it is our collective future that hangs in the balance. We believe that every voice counts, and hope to be able to include yours in this powerful call to action.
