Elijah Blake raps with Billboard about his new single "Hanging Tree."

Elijah Blake goes in depth about his new single, "Hanging Tree." During an interview with Billboard, Elijah mentioned his favorite quote by Nina Simone; "How can you be an artist and not reflect the times?” amid a studio session shortly after the release of his first album, Elijah felt something compelling him to create a song about the oppression and marginalization still happening in "post slavery" America. This was the inspiration for the song 'HangingTree". The only issue was the fact the at the time, Blake didn't have a project to release his new song. Its release was postponed until a friend of Blake's pointed him in Harry Belafonte’s direction.

Mr. B's social justice organization, Sankofa.org, originally premiered the track earlier this year on Sankofa’s visual EP "17." sankofa.org has collaborated with Elijah and will release the video for," Hanging Tree," available exclusively on VEVO June 1st.
