CLIMBING POETREE'S REFLECTIONS FROM STANDING ROCK

While families across the country prepared to celebrate Thanksgiving, we were on our way to Standing Rock. Climbing PoeTree was invited by the International Indigenous Youth Council to make the journey to Sioux territory and stand against 524 years of continued colonization and brutal attacks on First Nation peoples. When we got there we met with members of the Youth Council and quickly became immersed into the 24 hour prayers and actions that circle the camps.

"Since the election, we at Sankofa.org have had the opportunity to hear and share reflections with key partners and allies about how to stay the course and continue pushing for a progressive human rights agenda amidst the journey ahead. Many have asked, "Where do we go from here?", a question for which there are no easy answers. However, Sankofa.org's commitment to helping elevate critical issues, and creating safe spaces for healing, community and solutions building remains undeterred.
