July 14, 2016 – NEW YORK, NY – Today Sankofa.org, the social justice organization founded by legendary actor, entertainer and humanitarian Harry Belafonte, announced the launch of “Many Rivers To Cross” – the largest Music and Arts Festival dedicated to racial and social justice. Taking place on October 1 & 2 in Chattahoochee Hills, GA outside of Atlanta, “Many Rivers To Cross” will promote awareness around critical human rights issues. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 29, 2016.

The two-day festival will host multiple stages featuring stars and influencers like Jesse Williams, Chris Rock, John Legend, Common, Estelle, Dave Matthews, Michelle Alexander, Carlos Santana, Danny Glover, Dr. Cornel West, and Public Enemy. More performers and entertainers are scheduled for announcement over the coming weeks.

In addition to high-profile performances, “Many Rivers To Cross” will also include a “Social Justice Village” where activists, thought-leaders, and Sankofa.org’s organizational partners will share information, exchange ideas, and activate calls-to-action to mobilize attendees around society’s most urgent human rights issues.

“In this urgent national moment, we are witnessing a resurgence of artists who are actively seeking ways to become more politically engaged and connected with movements on the ground, and helping impact change around critical issues like police violence, mass incarceration, voting rights and other forms of systemic injustice,” said Harry Belafonte, Actor, Humanitarian and Founder of Sankofa.org. “This Festival will be an opportunity for artists to mobilize audiences through their songs and music, and to stir up America's collective consciousness and commitment to progressive action.

'Many Rivers' will also provide a crucial space for these artists to connect and collaborate with activists, thought leaders and community organizers from across the country and use their platforms to amplify ideas and solutions to advance human rights for all."

Founded by Belafonte in 2013, Sankofa.org has been building a platform where influential artists and grassroots leaders can work collaboratively to speak out against human rights abuse and injustice. Recently Sankofa.org partnered with Blackout for Human Rights on the successful “Justice For Flint” benefit concert, and worked with Usher on his groundbreaking “Chains”music video and racial justice campaign. With “Many Rivers To Cross” Sankofa.org will raise funds to support social justice grassroots partners who are working and organizing on the front lines for progressive social change.
